How About Trying a New Year’s Resolution That’s Easy to Keep?

Every new year, millions of us choose one or more resolutions for the year ahead. They are a great way to focus your mind on what’s important to you and they can often be very motivational. Whether I’ve been looking to lose a few pounds, start a new exercise regime, try a new hobby or even start my own business, I’ve found new year’s resolutions to be really helpful in achieving my goals…although I am still working on losing that excess weight!

And that’s often the problem – new year’s resolutions can sometimes be really hard to keep. I’m sure over the next few days you will see many magazine and web articles extolling the virtues of picking SMART targets. Anyone who has ever sat through a business training course will have been bored to tears listening to the presenter drone on about SMART targets and I’m not about to repeat that here.

Instead, here is my EASY new year’s resolution for you to try:

Go and change the batteries in your Carbon Monoxide and Smoke detectors. Do it today, and if you haven’t got any – go to B&Q and buy some. They’re a lot cheaper than that new gym membership and they could save your life.

If your detector is more than ten years old or past the expiry date on the side, then change that too.

And that’s it – I change the batteries in my detectors every new year and I always encourage my family and friends to do the same in their homes too. It doesn’t take long and you can relax knowing you’ve hit at least one resolution in 2025 even if you do end up spending more time in burger restaurants than in the local leisure centre this year.
